why do haitians eat their babies?

i was told that in Haiti those who practice voodoo tend to eat their babies. Does anyone know the history of this myth??

Haitians don't eat their babies, not even the ones who practice voodoo, I think someone was pulling your leg.

And just so you know Cannibals only eat their dead, they don't kill people to eat them, they feel eating their dead is a way of honoring them, gross to you and me but it's their custom.

This is just plain ridiculus. Are you serious? Just because you are not aware of a culture you assume a disgusting thing like that. Haitian people are just like us except they do not have the resources we have in the US and other industrialized countries. Would you go up to a Haitian and ask them that question? Probably not because it is rude and unneccesary!!!! Not to mention you would probably get hit for asking that.

The practice of Vodou has nothing to do with that either. Vodou is about helping your family and the community. You do not willingly hurt people with Vodou it is against the religion especially children. It is not a myth it is a racial, ignorant, biggoted remark that should never had been asked in the first place.

Why don't you take a trip to haiti and see for yourself wether they do things disguting like that. It sickens me that people would actually anwser a question like this as if it was serious. Honestly if I get reported for voicing my opinion so be it. That shows how ignorant people are when it comes to others that not like them.

I practice Vodou and I know Haitian people that also practice. I plan on going to Haiti next year and visiting the people I have made contact with. Haiti is a beautiful country that does have some problems in certain areas. Regardless the country is filled with amazing artwork, culture, and faith. We could all learn something from Haitian people because in thier country there is no such thing as not having faith.

I doubt it. It sounds like somebody is just trying to demonize a different religion.

I think the myth just stems from misconceptions and negative images. Zombies are a relatively rare concept in voodoo, contrary to popular belief. No one is really sure where voodoo dolls come from, but they became associated with the religion too. Most practicioners of voodoo say that they would never try to harm someone. But because of the bad image, people might start accusing them of terrible things.

It probably stems from the book "Malleus Maleficarum" that was written in the middle ages. They used during the Inquisition to find "witches" one of the things they said was that witches eat their babies.

Seance then every non-christen or non main stream christen religion is accused of that at one time. They turn in to urban legends. It goes along with people of certain faiths having horns. Stem from the same book
