Almost all laptop manufactures do extensive testing in the gravity department and it is unlikely that a "good shock" for even an off the table fall will do any kind of real damage. although a significant drop can of course, snap the frame/ motherboard or blow out your screen. if you do notice a performance difference or a specific component not preforming the way it should, try to make sure it is all the way connected. Batteries, hard drives, and DVD drives will come out the easiest, but are also the easiest to access and confirm a snug fitting.

It depends on how high you dropped it and what type it is. Mine never got any damage, but I have never dropped it from high up.
