we vote these people into office for our protection and all they ever do is take us to the cleaners. i feel all things that are going to affect the general people should go to vote by the people.

Why, then we would be a Democracy and be in as much financial difficulty as California with their stupid propositions!

The founders didn't want a Democracy because they did not want the majority running roughshod over the minority! That is why we have a Representative Republic!

What we need to do is take back America from greedy corporations, and fire a few representatives that are in their back pocket.

I didn't elect my representatives to vote for big business. They are suppose to be representing me!

I am tired of "public servants" going into office broke and coming out a multi-millionaire all set for the rest of their lives. I don't think that was the intent of Public Service!

But I also don't think that the rich should be able to prey on the poor and the taxpayers!

Unfortunatly, America isn't a direct democracy. We are all represented, so most important decisions aren't put to a vote by the people.

A lot of the representitives are concerned with the vents in their state, or county, or town, and so the problems are more regional instead of national.

We don't stand up for several reasons. We feel powerless. We try to change but fail. We feel that voting in the right representitives will create change. The fact is it is difficult to do so.

One answer is Apathy. It is great that you are aware of whats going on. There are not many that desire to do any thing about it. Politicians respond to 2 things. Pain and Pleasure. Most of the Yahoo users on these pages can offer politicians pleasure with things like money, taking them out, attractive ladies, and the promise of more votes. Folks like me only have one thing to offer them and that's pain. What is pain? For starters pain is accountability. Finding where a politician broke his campaign promise is particularly painful. You can try going to the snake but I have actually had them run the other way. the best thing to do is to deliver the message to his constituents either by going door to door or leaving a few hints lying around in the form of a flyer or post card. This will get his attention. With a group effort we can win back our government

Because most people don't want to be "involved", which takes time and effort. They elect people, expecting them to do the hard stuff, and then pay them piddly wages. I used to think paying a Senator $100,000 was too much, but when you think about it, they have to maintain TWO residences, travel a lot ( not all paid for by government ), etc., it gets expensive to serve, and maybe that's why we only get rich people, not competent people, serving in Congress and running for President. It takes quite a bit of bad actions to make people jump on their political reps these days, as citizens are too "busy" making money, etc. to really pay attention. Citizens have turned from being pro-active to re-active, and that's why politicians will have it easy for a long time.

The people in charge are doing their best to hold that power. They are getting any and every piece of information that they can compile on the people, and how we act. This way they can sway any way they need to in order to stay in office. As you can see from the post a few back,, ie the Bush love, lib hater...

That would be a democracy...we live in a republic...

The Democratic lie, is what I call it...

Anyways...in a republic, we elect leaders to make our decisions for us...

Say the pledge of allegiance real quick for a second!

AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS

You have been duped my friend!
