Your drive MUST be a DVD writer and the disk MUST be a DVD-R or (+R).

Sounds to me like you are either trying to make a DVD using a CD burner or a have a CD-R disk in a DVD burner. Make sure the drive has DVD R/RW printed on the cover.

Remember that there's two ways to save movies in Movie Maker:
1) Save as a project - do this while you're still tweaking the movie
2) Save as a movie - do this when the project is just the way you want it.

When saving as a movie, you'll have several choices. A PC movie will need to be played on a computers media player while a DVD will go to a disk.

your laptop may not read a DVD -R.
older drives are not compatible with all discs.
