Did the Cold War ever REALLY end?

Consider the following incident in 1995, after the supposed end of the Cold War. On January 25, 1995, the Russian early warning radar’s detected an unexpected missile launch near Spitzbergen. The estimated flight time to Moscow was 5 minutes.

The Russian President, the Defense Minister and the Chief of Staff were informed. The early warning and the control and command center switched to combat mode. Within 5 minutes, the radar’s determined that the missile's impact would be outside the Russian borders.

The missile was Norwegian, and was launched for scientific measurements. The Russians were poised for a full-scale retaliation against NATO and the US. For the first time in history, the Russian suitcase with the launch codes was activated...remember this was POST-Cold War.

It only takes a few minutes on the keyboard to redirect ICBMs to USA targets. As long as the nuclear genie remains outside the bottle, we'll have the nuclear sword of Damacles hanging over our heads...Cold War or not.

The cold war never really ended. It was simply ignored for years after the fall of communism in Russia and trade agreements with China. We still have the same situation in many other countries like Iran, South Korea, and of course Cuba.

I hope not. It is my totally faulty intuition that leads me to believe that Russia has been 'westernized' with capitalism and western culture that many of the 'moneyed' Russians will not stand for another war of that type. We'll have to wait and see, won't we? Great question.

I dont think there will be anything cold about the current struggle going on..I think this one will be fought and in our face until it is over..
