A pistol qualification was not a medal during the Vietnam era, nor should it be. That they award one now jerks my Chain!
I have a NDSM ! It was automatically awarded to all service personnel during certain times! A lot don't currently have it, but it is not a big deal medal!
The National Defense Service Medal was first established by President Eisenhower in 1953, and was subsequently awarded for honorable active service for any period between June 27, 1950 and July 27, 1954, between Jan. 1, 1961 and Aug. 14, 1974, and between Aug. 2, 1990 and Nov. 30, 1995
The Department of Defense announced that service members on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001, are eligible to receive the National Defense Service Medal.
It means little. A Korean Service Medal, or a Vietnam Service Medal mean something!
And as far as the jets: Why do you think they assign Bush that jet. He would NEVER be called to serve in Vietnam as they were phasing it out! Too bad he couldn't pass a pee test!
Bush should have been charged for desertion! Desertion is anything after 30 days AWOL!
Clinton, like many others during Vietnam, went to school. He was a Rhodes Scholar. He never joined a guard unit to GET OUT OF COMBAT, and he didn't go awol! Very few presidents lately have been in the Military. Old Ronnie was doing feel good films during WWII. Carter was an officer in the Navy!
The irony is that we are in a war, and no one in Bush's cabinet has ever been in the service. They all got deferments, Like Cheney who " didn't have time"!
And if Clinton did join the service and wasn't a Republican?Look what they did to John Kerry who has a Silver Star and 2 Purple Hearts! All they ended up doing was to degrade every person in the military who has a Purple Heart and makes it look like a cheap medal! It isn't! It cost many their lives or their limbs!

it doesnt take a hero even in our president to stand up to terrorism-we can fight it in America and England when the terrorists take over in Iraq and use the oil money to support their war on the infadels in our countries instead of fighting them there.
and the point to me is our heart today-and knowing what brings inner peace-yet standing for what is right too!
yes and I have prayed and seen miracles to deliver me in the Military and i got awards and honorable discharge too in the reserves 2 years active duty.
and i think many people even without prayer know in their is reasons to stand up to terrorism heart and soul!

yet in coming to Jesus it has helped me get heavenly insights too to protect my life, yet there are deamons as Jesus says coming as creatures of 'light'=the greatest protection is prayer-and to be forwarned is to be forarmed.

God is God and can do anything-even manifest himself in the form of a man-as promised-Isaiah 53 "He will be rejected and lay down his life to make atonment for our sins."
His salvation his death redemption for us-while saying Jesus was without sin born from a virgin to live pure and die for our sins
Like love your enemies as you love yourself
He also said "If you have seen me you have seen the Father."
this is how I as a Jew came to know Jesus too=as promised Jesus is God and gives good peace & gives good advice = Isaiah 9:6
