First I would ask what country or state you are in. Many nursing homes allow smoking in designated areas in order to maximize normalcy for the patient and to allow them the same rights as community residents. However, in most locations in the United States, the places where residents can smoke are designated and limited so that those who do not wish tio smoke or who cannot object are not unwittingly exposed. I would suggest you try a more user friendly argument like the one above, rather than using medical logic. Unfortunately, although I agree with you, smoking is a hot button topic. If you are in a country where smoking is common or accepted, a softer approach may get you further.
