A couple months back, I decided to buy some foundation from M.A.C. To be exact, it's Studio Fix Fluid. It's been a long while since I bought it and there's still more than half of it left. I really want to use it all up and not waste my money but every time i wear it, I get this caked on and over-powdered look on my face. How do I get my Studio Fix to look more natural and sheer?

Take it to where you bought it and ask them to show you.

Well, it is a big issue to make sure your foundation is the right shade. Not only does it need to suit your skin tone, but if your warm or cool toned, it needs to have the right tone, and some people have pink or yellow undertones, so it can be a bit of a hassle to find the right foundation. However, for me, I have a really cheap, stiff-bristled kabuki brush that is awful at applying powder, but it's so stiff-bristled that it is amazing at blending out my makeup if it ever goes on too cakey. Make sure your skin is cleansed and moisturized before you put on foundation, and apply it with a light hand. Build it up where you need it, and remember, don't use foundation to try and hide spots or dark patches -- use concealer instead. If you don't have a stiff-bristled brush anywhere, try using a kleenex and gently dabbing off the excess. I want to say you can use the tissue to rub off the foundation, but you shouldn't be tugging at your skin, so just gently buff it out with the kleenex. Or, you could try mixing your foundation with a moisturizer to make a lighter mixture, until you can find a better foundation. Also, wash your foundation brush well, and make sure you're using a good brush, too! Higher-end brushes are more expensive, but they're well worth it with foundation. Often, eyeshadow brushes don't necessarily always need to be the best, but with foundation, it's very noticable if your foundation isn't applied well, so it's worthwhile to spring for a good brush. :) Hope I helped! - Alice

Here are some idea's that could work:

1) use an angled sponged, dampen it then when you apply to your face blend thoroughly all the way through, this makes a sheerer layer of foundation

2) Mix it with your moisterizor, you can either do it on the back of your hand just before applying or get a good ammount and mix it in a little container, either way the moisturizor takes a little of the color to make it a sheerer color, and it also will moisturize you face to get the foundation to blend rather then cake.

3) Use it only where you need it, such as to cover breakouts, mix a little on the back of your hand then using your finger blend it carefully on the spot, don't rub or you'll just smear it.

4) Use Manuel Override silicone primer before you put on the foundation, this helps foundation blend easier, last longer, and there are fewer visible fine lines.

5) Still got questions? At mac you can go to http://www.maccosmetics.com/customerservice/email_artist.tmpl to email an artist or javascript:popWin( 'https://www.maccosmetics.com/liveperson/index.tmpl', 'maclivechat', 483, 409,'no', 0) chat live with a make up artist from 10AM to 10PM monday-friday. This isn't an answer to what you've asked, but it's some advice for the interim: If you look caked and over-powdered when you wear it, don't wear it again until you get a satisfactory answer! I, too, like to get my money's worth and use all of the products I buy, but if you bought a product that doesn't work for your skin, ditch it. You're better off looking natural and imperfect than over-done and imperfect! You may have already gotten all the "value" that you're going to get from the MAC.

Okay.... I used to constantly wear MAC makeup all the time...even my sister and cousin used studio fix all the time. the problem with MAC is that it is really "cakey" and it dries out your skin and cloggs your poures. We all switched to Clinique, we have recieved compliments on it. It really makes a difference and your skin has a healthy glow to it. It's called Perfectly real makeup, makesure you get the Neutral (N)or the Gold (G) the pink (p) is too rosey, unless you like that. and for foundation just buy the quick corrector in the tube and jus dot it on your face and blend it in with your fingers. it's really good makeup and you'll see a nice difference! (and Clinique is not that expensive compared to MAC's)

Oh and the foudation brush from MAC is a joke...it's like $40+ and it doesnt even work...they gave that to me and i returned it. And to make your makeup look even better on go buy aveeno daily face moisturizing lotion its not that expensive and you can find that at target. just put that one right before your foundation and powder.

and take it from me, don't go back to MAC and ask them to help you because they are just going to try a bunch of products on you because they are all trained to put layer after layer on customers so they get more comission on the more products they sell. Although if you want shadows, MAC is the place to go, nobody can beat their shadows they last and are so pretty.

That's a shame. If you are willing, contact a Mary Kay Consultant. This company allows you to try before you buy, and money back guaranteed. If you were half way done with a MK product and you were not liking the way it appears to you, contact the consultant for product exchange or your money back.
Mary Kay has a Medium-Coverage Foundation and a Tinted Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 20.

1) Try applying it w/ a foundation brush. MAC & Lancome make good ones. If you get one from Lancome, do so during a beauty bonus promotion. Avon, The Body Shop & Sonia Kushuk @ Target are also good & much cheaper.

2) Apply it w/ a damp makeup sponge.

3) Put a dab in your hand & blend it w/ moisturizer.

i see some really good answers. I wouldnt know about how to fix the M.A.C. even though i had it once. When you are done with that make-up, try Bare Minerals. I found it to be the best face make-up that never cakes up on me or anyone i know.....

Hmm, try putting some in like a little container or something and mixing it with face mosturizer. Maybe that will help it look more nautral.

wear alot less of it, and maybe mix it with a little bit of moisturizer. it will mosturize and make you look great. if this still doesnt help, its time to switch foundations. i recommend maybelline dream matte mousse. its great and non-cakey. i use it and love it, just remember to put it on with a sponge
