Rumor has my company relocating. How far can they move from our current location (San Jose CA) before they'd have to pay our relocation costs? From where I happen to live it'll no doubt be farther away. Certainly for others it may be closer.

They're not under any legal obligation to pay relocation costs ever.

A company can move wherever it wants and it has no obligation to pay relocation costs, period. Some companies offer relocation costs to some workers that the company considers too valuable to lose. Unless your boss's boss considers you irreplaceable, you probably aren't going to get moving pay.

THe company will have to pay for relocation no matter if they move across the country or across the hall. As to paying for your relocation they don't have to pay at all. It is the company's choice.
