Right now, the PS3 is going strong.
Xbox 360 is very good, also. Because they decided to ship their product out first, before Sony and Nintendo, they are old news in the eyes of most new gamers. They also shipped with a lot of bugs that they didn't work out, that they should have. Xbox, and Xbox 360 has Halo, Halo 2, and soon to be Halo3. They also have Gears of War.
PS3 has Resistance Fall of Man, and I'm sure many others, but I don't follow it that much. PS3 is also a year ahead on graphics than the Xbox, due to the fact that it came out a year later.
Another one to consider is Nintendo Wii. It a cheap console, that can be a lot of fun. It's pretty small, too.
