I think that as long as you are alive your soul is with you.
I don't think dreaming has much to do with the soul.
Dreaming is in the mind. The soul is more like an energy that runs through the body.

The soul helps us when we sleep, it´s doing a hard work actually, it helps us to solve questions by helping us dream. If we have bad dreams, it can help us resolve some bad things in our lives and when having nice dreams, the soul helps us to understand the good things that have happened, although we do not recognize them consciously. The soul works all the time, does never sleep.

Hello. We have three bodies. The Physical, the Spirit or Astral , and the Soul. The Soul isn't a body like your physical. It doesn't even have a shape. The Soul is the sum total of all the lives we have had through a series of re-Incarnations.Possibly through thousands of years. The Soul then exists as Essence. Non-human,non-Physical. The Astral body which is our true self never sleeps.Like the Soul it is made of non-physical material called Ectoplasm. The Astral travels constantly through the many planes of Spirit(heaven) and never rests. It doesn't need to.The only part that sleeps is our physical. Our mind is seperate to us, and again never stops working. When you learn advanced Occult secrets, you learn to synchronise your two bodies, and "travel" as one body.

There are many different definitions of what and where the soul is--or even if it does exist.
First you need to study the definition of 'the soul' out for yourself.
I happen to believe that there is such a thing as "a soul".
For and/or to me, I define it as follows:
"Soul" is what lets "Matter" know what "Spirit" is doing, and vice versa.
"Soul" is created between the interplay of "Spirit" and "Matter".
"Soul" is the window/door through which "higher energies" flow.
I did not think or make up these definitions, as they come from something often referred to as "The Ancient Commentary" or "Ancient Wisdom".
Some teach that when "you" (you need to define this as well) sleep your 'soul' either goes 'to school' (as in being in a state of perpetual learning), or attempts to communicate and/or teach "you".
However, during periods of sleep, the 'chord' (often referred to as 'the silver chord') to your physical/mental consciousness is 'disconnected' (and stays or goes with your soul) and only a connection to your heart consciousness remains. This is why dreams are more emotional in nature than 'decisive'; or that decisions seem to be 'emotionally packed' in dreams.
The "Soul" itself does "rest"; however, at present--while you are here in this plane of existence, it is in a state of "deep meditation".
And as it is in "meditation", it may be a fact be that your existence (consciousness, etc.) is a 'dream' (similar to a meditative state).
Your ability to contact it (soul contact) and have a 'dialogue' and it to have a dialogue with you is very similar to the difficulty you experience in remembering and understanding your dreams or making sense of your dreams when and as you are having them.
Our (concrete) mind is something different and/or separate from the "Soul"; however, we do experience or have experience of the Soul through the mind, body, and emotions--no different than our experiences of other 'energies'.
Eastern religion/ancient wisdom teaches that "we" go into a state of 'Prayala' or 'rest'. Now depending on how you define and/or interpret "we" (consciousness or soul), then yes, your soul (or you?) do go through a period of 'rest'.
Regards,

Maybe it goes into the bodies of grazing animals; then when the animals sleep, we're awake.

It continues to not exist, just like when you're awake.
