Someone needs to tell him that fans care about the game we are watching not for him to be announcing what star is at the game. He needs to stop being such a celebrity struck idiot.

Alot of announcers have to do this under orders from the networks, besides Joe Buck isn't that great of announcer anyway , personally I thinks he stinks. And I am from St Louis to where he is from.

You may be blaming the wrong person. Quite often, announcers are under orders to point out celebrities in the stands. More than once in a while, those celebrities are going to be on the network in the near future.

Some producers also think pointing out celebrities shows that going to that particular game is the "in thing," and tells the regular viewer that he or she is just as cool as the celebrity for watching.

The announcers probably would rather just talk about the game.

It isn't just Joe Buck. I have listened to many announcers bring to our attention other "sports celebs" as well as have them in the booth for conversations.
Sometimes there's a need to relate something other than the game. There are times when they are hunting for something to say, like, a pitching change, etc.
I'd much rather hear Joe Buck point out a celeb or two than to listen to Tim McCarver expound for 30-minutes on the differences and advantages and disadvantages of the hit-&-run or the run-&-hit. Or why the pitcher should waste one or two when the count is 2-strikes and no-balls.
Other things I've heard all announcers talk about: Golf, Racing (both cars & horses), Football, and a myriad of other things. Many times a slight change of pace helps to break up the bordom.

I did not notice it yet today, but it is often someone associated with a program on FOX. Especially during the playoffs and World Series TV networks "place" stars of their shows in the stands and it is the duty of the sportscaster to point them out to the audience as a free moment of advertising. This has been done for years but does seem to be more prevelant during FOX broadcasts.

They aren't celebrities, they're people who appear on Fox television shows. Fox always does this. Fox Sprots Sux. Fox Snooze is worse.

I guess he is the one stuck on celebrities. Maybe because he thinks he is one, also. I want to see the game, not who is there.

he wants to be a celeb himself and have people notice and care about his presence. how else do you explain all of the commercials he does around MLB playoff time when he's doing those games, in addition to NFL coverage?
