my father passed away and I need to find out about his checking account. I believe that his caretaker was not up front with me about his financial situation.

The judge and the court staff are not legally allowed to help you, although they may want to do so. Most private attorneys will not do probate on a pro bono basis. However, unless there is a will contest, probate is among the cheapest legal work. Search on the link below to find a probate attorney in the county where your father lived.

You must go to the Probate Judge Office. If you are the next of kin you will need to file a death certificate., and a will if he had one . Being a child you are in titled to his inheritance or at less something.A care taker can not take things that were your daddy's unless he had a will leaving everything to her or him, and in some states a child must be left at least a $1.00, if he had a will . A child is to get a child's part. But of course it could be different from state. If he did not have one the Probate Judge will tell you what all you will need to do.You need to do this asap.It cost very little to go to the Probate office the information is free.States are different but you can find out in Probate Office at your county court house.Good Luck!!!

You're probably going to have to pay for a lawyer for this.
