I have never seen it, but my daughter says it is incredible. Should I rent the first season and start watching?

yes, it is a great show... I think the best way to watch the show is to rent it and watch it all within a short period of time... you will notice how things fit together better...
and I am tired of people saying there haven;t been any answers :P , they have given us plenty of answers maybe not the ones we want to know but if we found those out the show would have been over a long time ago :P
I like the show because it doesn't spoon feed you, and it makes you think....

My favourite theory was that everyone is in purgatory, and must find peace with their past through their experiences on the island -- so when a character "dies", they've found peace. This idea was bourne out by the way Boone died, and by the surreal and cathartic experiences on the island. It also explained why sailing away from the island brought you back to it -- it's not really in the world. Sadly, this has been shot down by the producers confirming that it's not true! Also some of the character deaths haven't been after particularly major developments in their stories; for example, the two tailies Michael shot were dispatched without much fanfare and without major personal change immediately beforehand. I also used to suspect that the island was radically further North than the characters think, especially given the polar bear and the radio signals in the North Atlantic, but since they've explained the presence of the bears that idea doesn't have any particular strength.

It may not be the "Best" show, but it has many levels. The first season gives you all the aspects of action, drama, comedy - while getting you extremely attached to the characters.
I don't watch tv too much, but the show gives character development a whole new defenition. If you don't know the characters, you will not like the show. If you watch from the start, you will love (or hate) MANY characters and it will keep you interested. Then the plot begins to sink in.

Yes, it is the best show I have seen in a while. Many people were frustrated in the beginning though, because they would show two or three new episodes, then play re-runs. I think they lost alot of viewers because of this. But this season was by far the best yet. You should buy all the seasons on dvd. It's worth it.

it is good, do start watching it, but get ready to be annoyed at some things every question is met with another question . . . it isn't the best ever, but it is awesome
