Did it not strike you as funny that very fact they appeared to be allowing a person with cancer to donate a kidney? I thought, they couldn't transplant organs that were possibly infected with cancer in case they gave it to the donor? Anyway, people are far too squeamish about organ donation! I am an organ donor and after I'm dead they can take all the bits and cremate the rest! You don't need them, and a part of you would live on, for a while at least. I did think the apparent show was in extremely bad taste, if that's what you are asking. Anything to highlight the plight of people who need donors. It has to be the most selfless thing one can do and more people should do it. You'll be dead for Gods sake, what does it matter?

I'd have to disagree with you for the following reasons.
- From what I've read, the program was made with the full awareness of all of the participants - no-one was exploited.
- Holland has a problem at the moment with finding organ donors. People are spending years on waiting lists and are dying for the lack of donors.
- Let's make a hypothetical case here. Let's assume that just one person, having watched this show, was motivated to arrange to have their organs donated for transplant after their death. Let's assume that just one, single, solitary life was saved in that way. Would you still say that it was sick to make a TV programme which made a contribution to saving a life?

i think it was a sick way to go about highlighting the issues around transplant. I was alittle dubious about it though when i first heard about it because i was told my husbands transplant team that people who had died of cancer and other illnesses were not suitable to become donors, and i thought it was not allowed that the donor could "pick" before hand the recipient, that is something which only the database can do. There are alot of strict rules in place regarding transplant and this story did not seem to follow any of them. I personally believe it would never be made, and the whole thing was dreamed up to deliberately get on the news to raise awareness, and i think it worked. Not sure about any more people joining up but it certainly got people talking about transplantation.

Recipients of donors are diccided on donors by way of the merits of their case...Here a person who had drunk his whole life may win a liver or something over a person who is has a naturally occuring genetic disposiotion that effectst their kidney and this is for entertainment....The person who came up with the idea should be killed and his organs donated for the show...and where are they getting the organs from???Do the donors know they are on tv>

totally agree with you. saw it on the news and I hope people watching gave a thought to the unfortunate people who are desperately waiting for an organ to be donated. this is an area where jokes shouldn't occur. It's all about life and death. to get an organ usually someone else has to die first. not a laughing matter.

It put a very important issue on the front page of every newspaper. That has a positive benefit and probably could not have been achieved through 'normal' PR and marketing processes.
It is important to always look at Both Sides of an issue.

There are simply not enough people donating organs and people are needlessly dieing, including children. If this game show improves the rate of people carrying a donor card then it was worth it, sick or not.

i know where youre coming from but this is the only way they would have possibly gotten this much attention for organ donor awareness i think they went a little far with saying that the woman had cancer they could have handled that part differently

Hmm, I'm not so sure. For me, If show this has created just one more donor and that donor goes on to save just one life then maybe, just maybe it was worth it. I can completely understand peoples feelings though. Sick? I'd go with very very bad taste.
The end does not always justify the means but in this case......

it was to make people would didnt know much about organ donation aware of the whole system. and you may call it sick, but how many of you are holders of donor cards already? the founder (who died waiting for a transplant) wanted to get people to understand that there are people out there in need, and i think it was a good idea. yes money was spent but how much more money has been spent in this world on totally pointless things that didnt actually help people and didnt educate people?
