I am in weddings in October and December 2007. Bridesmaid dresses for both weddings are being ordered within the next 2 weeks. I have been actively losing weight for the past 2 months aand will continue until I reach my goal weight. Should I order my dresses 2-3 sizes smaller or order at my current size and hope the dress can be altered?

What if you hit a plateau? I suggest only ordering 1 size smaller than your current size so you can alter it if everything goes to plan, and if it doesn't then you'll be okay.

The people who said order the dress in your current size are correct. Here's why - it's far easier & cheaper to have a tailor or seamstress make a dress smaller. There's more material to work with.

If you order a smaller size, and it doesn't fit - there's only so much that it can be let out. By thenre-ordering won't help because the color or style may not arrive in time for the event or is not available.

Plus, you cannot be sure you will continue to loose weight evenly all over your body by the wedding. For example, the bust may be fine while waist may have to be taken in quite a bit.

Great you are losing weight. Good for you.

Order your CURRENT size, that way if you lose you will not worry last minute if they have to downsize.

Think about this what if you do gain weight, or the wedding is called off or some kind of emergency and then the dress is too small or short, what then?

no, order your current size, what if something happens, like you break your leg and can't loose weight? Dresses can be made smaller but a dress can only be made a tiny bit bigger. If there is a tailor or seamstress in your town you can go there two weeks before the wedding. That will give her enough time to take it in, and you time to lose more weight.

to me, I would not order 3 sizes smaller.
with the assumption that I would be able to get it taken in to an exact fit prior to the ceremony.
maybe 1- maybe 2 sizes but 3 is pushing!..what if something happens and you didnt go down that many sizes? then you don't have enougth material to work with.....
it is very exciting to make the changes your making good luck! im not saying you cant do it, but I would say rather take it in for the best fit later. !

Order the dress in your current size. It can be altered later if necessary.

Look up old messages for girls who did the same and can't get thier dresses altered in time for the wedding. Or worse, the dresses cannot be altered larger...

I wouldnt get the dress altered until you lose the weight. Some people plan to do the same as you but just arent successful at it or give up. It will be cheaper just to alter it after you lose the weight.
