I am trying to cut everything out of my budget because I am $400 short a month and realized I don't really make enough on ebay to keep my computer on the net. I use Ask and Answer but can live without that and don't really have anyone I need to email. Can you suggest some things I might not be thinking of that I might miss badly if I did decide to shut it down because $55 a month looks like a lot of extra money to me to pay bills.

55? wow, Umm I just renewed my contract, and paid 38 bucks now instead of 57. I just told them I don't use my phone so, I just wanted the cheapest possible option and they cut everything but the actual phone and long distance. Then I got the 2nd cheapest possible plan which was 25. =\
If you wanna save more money you can not use your computer much.

In other words, use your computer less, get a cheaper internet package or use dial up. =] Good luck man...

I'd give up cable tv before i gave up highspeed internet. You can get 13 channels of crud instead of 100 channels of crud. Broadband can save you money because you can use voice over IP to make calls, you can pay bills online instead of paying postage or driving. I'd also go cell phone only instead of paying cell AND landline.Drive less, eat out less. Use fleabay to sell some more if not to make profit but to off set th cost.

If you have to go back to dial up, use people pc or netzero, their cheaper and better than AOell.

Best wishes to you, we've all been there. Those of us in the middle class cut expenses, cut frills, and do without. The rich just declare bankruptcy and us taxpayers wind up paying. The poor, think their entitled to everything. Sorry, tobbacco, tatoos, beer, gold jewelry, twenty inch rims, cable tv are not necessities, they are luxuries that it's possible to do without. We're not saying that you cant ave them, but that they should have to pay for it. Sorry I'm ranting, I just got back from the grocery store, where I had to get mostly generic products, and the lady in front of me had a whole shopping cart full of Marie Callendars and Boston Market frozen dinners and she paid with "the card". When I left I saw she was loading up an Escalade with huge chrome rims. If she had the money for an Escalade, she had the money not to be on welfare. It's supposed to help people that NEED it, not be a way to get hardworking people to pay your bills for you.

Only thing I can think of just the convenience of having it. But that's not a big deal. I know that if I had to that i could live without this thing. And get more done around the house. lol
But this would be my choice too if i had to eliminate something. I don't watch a lot of TV but i am used to having it on. Good choice and good luck....

$400 per month, eh? You can use the internet to search for a better paying job, or to get online education that will qualify you for a better paying job. However, getting out into the real world would be a better way to accomplish that. I agree you don't need to pay $55 per month for high speed internet - just switch to a lower-cost provider.

55$ a month is a bit much. If I were you, I would talk to your provider, and see if you can pay by MB. Which means, you only pay for what you use. So if you check your email once a week, and that's it, then you'll only pay a tiny fraction of the cost.

Yeah, just use your phone line if you need to get online.
Or, if you don't need that, consider cancelling your telephone and have your number switched to a cell phone.
You can get a prepaid, like Virgin Mobile, which is much cheaper than a land line. And you won't get a bill every month.

I'd have to say, go ahead and cut those exspenses for the time being becdause you can always get your isp/whatever back after you start doing better.
