Mine is 18 now but I work in the school system and I can tell u the average.Around here they start chores around 7 or 8. Like boys take the trash out and girls help with the dishes. They give them 3 to 5 dollars a week. 9 to 12 they give 5 to 10.00 aweek. Teens get 10.00 to 15.00 aweek depending on how much work they do...But I think u should give them on how much u can afford too.Plus on how many chores they have. My son works all day and goes to college at night. He does the dishes and I cook. I do the laundry and he does the mowing. It is just him and I. I don't give him allowance anymore but I still take care of him and I don't charge him for room and board. Just use your common sence. Good luck

I don't have kids but I know from growing up that no matter what you pay you children for chores, so long as they are under your roof make sure you make the save 50% of whatever they earn. Even if they get a job at like 16 keep them saving 50% and give it to them after they have graduated HS or college.

But as far as what to pay. Basically whatever you can afford and good chores would be those that help around the house or teach them something new. Hell you could pay your kid to make a good website or something, it would be a good chore, plus they'd learn something. Just remember that they need to save half. They will thank you latter on in life and it will teach them the importance of saving.

RE: How much do you pay for each chore? How do your kids earn allowance? I have a 12, 9 and 4 year old. We are finally trying out the allowance with the household chores. The 9 year old has ADHD so he is very carefree and I am thinking the money incentive would get him motivated to help more around the house. Some ideas are letting the kids choose their own chores with...

When I was younger I washed or dried the pots every night and helped with the dusting, hoovering and cleaning the bathroom. My bedroom had to be tidied as well, all for £1 a week! Had a rise to £1.50 when I was about 10 and then when I it 13 or 14 I was given £20 a month and when it was gone that was it til the following month. At the time I hated doing chores and probably spent more time sulking then cleaning but it taught me the way of life!

My kids are 5 and 6.. a boy, and a girl... I pay them 50 cents per chore, and that usually means vacumming, windexing everything, making all the beds, feeding our pets, and wartering the plants. This is not an everyday thing, you can only expect so much from a child, so they average about 3 or 4 $ a week. Each

I have no kids yet, but my parent rewarded me an allowance when I was younger. They based it upon the chores I completed. I recieved about seven dollars a week for cleaning a smaller bathroom up until the time I was ten. For the next three years I recieved ten for a larger bathroom and another ten for cleaning the living and family room. My brother mowed the lawn for ten dollars and recieved another five if he trimmed. My parents continued giving me an allowance until I was fifteen at which one is old enough to start working. I hope this helps.

My parents didn't pay me an allowance. I think that helped me to learn to work for my money at a much younger age the most kids. I got my first job when I was 13.

I will not be paying my children an allowance. They need to learn how to be responsible for themselves. They can get a job like I did.

My son is only 2 1/2 years old. He doesn't have chores yet. So therefore I don't have to pay him allowance.

I did pay my 9-yr-old $10/wk to clean his room and the rabbit cage, but then I stopped because I was somehow still doing those things....now he cleans the rabbit cage when I tell him to, but getting him to clean his room is like pulling teeth. So instead, I have him do MY chores, which is easier to achieve, such as emptying the dryer and putting the clothes from the washer into the dryer.

My daughter is 10. She gets $10 a week because she works hard to earn it. She does almost all the dishes, in and out of the dishwasher, she puts away her clothes and her little sister's clothes, she keeps her room clean and organized. She helps alot with her sister, cleaning after her.

It's alot of work for her, but she makes good money and deserves every penny.
