WOW !! WONDERFUL Question!
I loved licking the bowl, and my grandmother lived on the same street that I grew up on until I was 9 and my parents divorced.
She lived about a block and a half down on the other side of the street, I wasn't allowed to cross alone, so I would walk over and stand across the street from her house (that looked to me just like Snow White's cottage) and yell "Grandma, Grandma" and she would come out and let me cross, then we would make cookies, and she would allow me to lick the bowl, and sit on the counter top! She told me stories about her family in Ireland, (and sometimes the stories would make her sad because she missed her grandparents and she would say..........and I love this quote "Aye it makes me heart water to think of them".... is that precious or what?....and afterwards I would lay my head in her lap and she would play with my hair, and before I left she always held me and told me that I was her very favorite, that I was her little Mik, and my father was her big Mik...... Now that is the longest answer Ive ever given! Sorry!!!..... but hey, Thanks for bringing up a GREAT memory for me!

Yes, indeed. I loved to lick the bowl after all the Chocolate Chip cookie dough was gone. It was always a yummy treat! As a child, one special privilege was that my Best Friend and I got to go to the Riding Stables on Saturdays. We loved to ride in the open fields and follow trails in the wooded area. We both had our number of falls, but we always got up and rode more. Those were the "good old days".

My mom did catering out of our house before my parents divorced so with 4 kids she had to divey out licking out the bowl....we fought for who got what bowl, the beaters, the scraper, etc.
After my parents divorce the big thing was we all had to go grocery shopping and whoever guessed the closest to the cost of the groceries, didn't have to carry in any of the bags from the car. Problem was it was usually my Mom...go figure!! Riding in the front seat was a real priviledge and one we fought over!!

OMG ME!!!!! I still do it! And I sometimes eat little balls of cookie dough when she walks away! I am 14 so I still am a child most of the time! I also have the privilege of getting to lick the spoon. I always would beat my brother to it. He got the mixers although sometimes I wanted those too.

I remember the beaters of the mixer after mixing a cake mix. Today they say the eggs will make you sick. ha.
We would sit in the apricot tree and eat them until we were stuffed.
We could eat our Halloween candy before getting home. The homemade popcorn balls too.
We played baseball in the street until the street lights came on.
Our dad told us scary stories and we loved it.
We went out in the big backyard and did snipe hunting in the summer.
There are lots more but time marches on.

Oh yeah, that was awesome. Picking and eating fresh fruit like figs, mulberries, chinese cherries, oranges and japanese plums (loquats)---oh and kumquats (small orange-like) fruit with edible peel...and whatever those orange-stringy fruits are that you find on the palm trees. I also spent a lot of time walking through the woods, which is not safe for children these days...

My brother and I fought over who could lick the bowl! Rock, paper, scissors, baby! :)

We also fought over who could eat the ice that our refrigerator produced on its sides.....that was before we had a frost-free fridge. Those were the days.
