Watering during the day causes water to evaporate before it hits the ground, especially in desert areas where temps are high and humidity low. In the city near me it is unlawful to water between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. just because of the evaporation factor.

Another consideration is what type sprinkler. Those that throw the water high into the air may lose too much water to evaporation before it hits the ground. Also the water droplet size should be large enough not to blow away but not too large to where you apply water too quickly for the soil to absorb.

Some people believe watering at night may promote disease. It might if your yard is dense, shady and has little air movement. Air should circulate easily through the yard.

I've also heard watering during the day burns the lawn because the water droplets act like magnifiers for the sun......naw, I'm not buying that one.

Years ago I read the Chinese farmer only irrigates at dawn and the few hours after. They feel the plants do best if watered early in the day.

Personally, I prefer to irrigate at night so less water is lost from the ground thru day sunlight and temperatures. Diseases are not a big concern for me.

Do it merely earlier daybreak. Doing it whilst the solar is favored is a waste of water because of evaporation. Watering interior the night because of the fact the solar is going down is the worst time in case you want to stay away from mushrooms, which matter on moisture and darkness to style.

Evening would give it time to soak in; however, lawn fungus can set up if the water stays on your lawn during the evening hours. Therefore, very early morning is best. It gives your lawn time to soak in the water before high sun causes evaporation and lawn fungus cannot develop.

Early in the morning or at night after the sun has went down. Never when the sun is out.

i don't about where you live but in GA. we have restrictions on watering, but when we can they say water at night because the sun dries the water up before it soaks into the ground. its cooler at night so the ground stays moist longer. we use a nozzle on the hose and walk around and spray the plants and flowers. so no matter where you live conserve all you can, because you never know when you could be hit with restrictions too.

In the evening. After the sun starts to go down. Or in the morning before it gets too hot.

This was a recent news story in my city. They said to water your lawn at night so that the sun doesn't evaporate the water that you have put on it. Makes sense to me.

Anytime between late in the evening when the sun is setting to dawn. Otherwise, it's like a steam bath to the lawn.
