I just read an article regarding this and I am fuming!

These people need to be stoned!! I understand that this is a free country, freedom of speech, yada yada. But there should be a line.
I'm not judging whether they should or shouldn't be picketing, but at a soldier's funeral!? This is a day for the family to put their child, husband, father, brother to rest, and to honor his life & ultimate sacrifice. It shouldn't be used as a tool to exploit your selfish views of politics, religion, or whatever it may be. There are MUCH more appropriate & effective places to carry on w/ your precious picketing. This is a deliberate & undeserved slap in the face to the family of the fallen soldier. They should be honored in the highest manor, & not have to see such disrespect on possibly the worst day of their lives.

I'm not usually a violent person, but if it were my family, I believe I would have to go and (b)itch slap every last one of them!!!

Isn't there any way they can be stopped?

There is a group of bikers called the "Freedom Riders" who go to soldier's funerals. When protesters show up to crash it the riders turn on their engines and drown them out. They also create a barricade all around the cemetery and don't let any protesters pass. It is pretty admirable, and appreciated by all of those grieving families who just want to lay their loved ones to rest.

You must be talking about Fred Phelps and his minions. They are from the Westboro Baptist church in Kansas.
bush passed a law banning his group as well as others from protesting at funerals in National Cemeteries.
*On May 24, 2006, the United States House and Senate passed the Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act, which President Bush signed five days later. The act bans protests within 300 feet of national cemeteries — which numbered 122 when the bill was signed — from an hour before a funeral to an hour after it. Violators face up to a $100,000 fine and up to a year in prison.

Phelps is a menace to society!

I am married to a soldier.

If anything happened to him and I had to bury him and protesters showed up!!

My husband would give his life for people of the U.S. to have the right to protest the war, and I feel they can protest the war in front of any government office or location, but the funeral of a soldier is sacred! ( as any other funeral)

Protesting that does nothing to help the anti war effort, all it does in deepen the pain of the family and god forbid small children.

I cannot honestly say what I would do in that event, but I can guarantee you, my actions and words would be anything but ladylike. I would have no issue going to jail for assaulting those people!

Well, it is about protesting at a funeral, soldier or otherwise.

It is an act of total disrespect for the dead person - and their family.

And as for the slapping thing - if that were my kid's funeral, they would get a lot more than that.

i've got self belief you're bearing on the WBC (Westboro Baptist Church) regrettably the individuals spoke back you properly while they pronounced the 1st modification. Freedom of speech is a powerful ingredient. it is unhappy, we attempt so no longer uncomplicated to shelter it and then the very those that we combat for use it against us. fortuitously, there is now a team of Veterans who've began going to those funerals to block the WBC protesters from getting nearby of the grieving households.

1/3 of our prison are filled with illegal aliens. That too is a awful thing to keep under wraps. We are losing all of our morals in this country. Some of our border guards are found guilty imprisoned without a trial here too. Some of our service people are being treated totally unfair as well. It's a sad day all around.

Take photos of these people so they can be recognized by others and the people they work for and post them on the Internet with info. The general public will deal with them.

There are laws keeping protesters a min. distance from places like Abortion Clinics, why not have a Min. distance from a military funeral.

500,000 miles would be a good distance, go over to IRAQ and protest there.

Frankly, the idiot liberals are free to protest wherever they want, as long as it does not disrupt OTHER people's rights. If liberals have been reduced to protesting at funerals, especially soldier's funerals, they have given up on convincing people that they are right.
