Brett Favre, Alex Smith hasnt even proven himself yet

Brett Farve, no questions asked. The man has the heart of a titan and he proves it by still playing. I don't think Green Bay has seen a better QB (with all respect to Bart Starr). Farve is a Hall of Famer.
Alex Smith is way too young for anyone to decided anything. He did a great job leading San Fran to a 7-9 record, including beating Seattle twice! He will probably be good, but Brett Farve is a legend. He's up there with Marino, Montana, and Unitas. He isn't as good as he used to be, but he will be remembered when he was in his prime. He is second on the all-time passing yards list and is hungry for more.
That's what I call an athlete.

Being a Packer hater it hurts to admit it but Favre on the downhill of his career is still better than Alex Smith will ever be.

What a silly question. Favre is a future hall of famer. Granted his skills have declined but at least he still has the pedigree. Alex Smith has no big wins and has proven nothing at this point. Favre by a long shot.

Hey, Alex Smith is the real thing, and he'll be deadly this year and in years to come. But I tell you what, if he were to answer this post he'd say Bret Farve.
The man is a living legend. Ask this question again in eight years and MAYBE, if Alex has one hell of a career, we'll have something to talk about.

brett favre is the better QB at this point but Smith has steadly improved and should have a good season this year.
