i have a 1989 chevy c1500 custom with a 305 and hugger headers and need to figure out if i truly need the cat to assist my flowmaster or magnaflow exhaust

my truck is classified as a drag truck but i need to cut down the noise levels doesnt the muffler do that

You don't kneed the cats, but your car wont be street legal if you opt to not use them. No cats means less restricted flowand therefore more power, but more pollution and noise. So, since your truck is probably going to be loud anyway, with the custom exhaust, no cop will ever notice if you ever get pulled over.

If your vehicle came from the factory with a converter, you have to have one, its a Federal Law. Unless you title it as a experimental car or something like that.

If you want to be legal then yes you need the cats. You can purchase high flow cats from summit racing.
