Gas prices are at at record high, as are oil company profits, incomes are slipping, at least for the middle class http://biz.yahoo.com/weekend/dadmoney_1.html

The GOP and republicans have ONE goal, to make things easier for big business and the super rich. Why to middle class people keep falling for their lies?

I can not speak for where you live, I live in the coal mining mountains of Va, where I live has been a very depressed economy for about 30 years now. I have seen both, Republicans and Democrats presidents in my time, but for the first time in my life, there are more jobs, than there are workers. There are no issue with our economy yes gas is high, but keep in mind its YOUR DEMOCRATS who continual stall and stop the US from using the fuel we have. It is a FACT that some of the largest oil reserves in the world are in the Gulf of Mexico, and in the Rocky Mountains. This can and should be retrieved, cleanly and correctly. It can be done. Yes alternatives should be sought but right now they are not there, so why should we refuse to use what we have as long as we do it wisely., all the while, taking out of the working peoples pockets to put it in the terrorist

Well I am a conservative first and a Republican 2nd and my goal has never been to make anything easier for anyone rich. That is a pretty large brush you are painting all republicans with my friend. All I know is since Bush introduced the across the board tax cuts unemployment has stayed consistent at record lows and the stock market keeps breaking record highs. My wife and I make around 40k a year and as the tax cuts have increased over the past few years our taxes have gone down. Funny how everyone says they want to go back to the Clinton taxes. If you look at the Library of congress website and compare the percentages the middle class payed and what the rich paid you will see that under Clinton the rich actually paid a lower percentage and the middle class paid a higher one. On the gas situation it's funny how the libs always point out how much the oil companies are making, but never mention that part of those profits go back into the company. The government invests 0 into gasoline yet makes a much bigger profit, then wastes most of the money on under achieving over bloated bureaucracies. If we start letting government regulate the profits or take them away as Hillary said she will do if elected then we cease being a country who's economy runs on free enterprise. It's a slippery slope do we want to stay a free country run by capitalism or do we want government to take over and we become a socialist country as she wants. Libs in power are pretty tricky but it's easy to see through if you really look. They are trying to pit people against people and make the rich look evil. Well if she really believes that I want to see her give some of her millions to help the poor. I know the deficeit is high but we are in a war that we did not start and we have had a lot of expenses paying for things we didn't foresee like 4 or 5 devastating hurricanes. Yet because of the tax cuts government revenues are way up because so many are working and paying taxes that the deficit is being payed down twice as fast as first predicted. But of course if you are as liberal minded as you sound none of these facts I have presented will matter to you. But I had to say my piece anyway.

How can anyone think that they're not? The stock market has never been higher and the unemployment rate has never been lower. Those are both great determining factors for a great economy.

Also, if the Republicans' "one goal" was making things easier for big business (and the super rich would be two goals, wouldn't it), they'd never get elected. They have to convince a majority of voters in this country that they are better candidates than the democrats if they want to get elected. The major difference between the Republicans and the Democrats is this - Democrats Tax and Spend, while Republicans only Spend. The Middle Class usually prefers the latter to the former. Now, if they could just find Republicans who like LESS Government and balanced budgets, the Democratic party would cease to exist.

Yeah lets go back to the great economy of Jimmy Carter. Record inflation, huge unemployment, bad housing market. Check the economic conditions report and you will see the economy is still growing. Gas prices are up world wide so how do the Republicans get blamed for that. Compare the profit % of other businesses really not much different to the oil companies, I guess you want them to have % profit.

the economy is great. the bush tax cuts worked. i make 30,000 a year, hardly rich if you ask me. i got 40$ a week more in my check when the tax cuts were put in place. the democrats want to raise taxes by 400 millon so they can fund stupid social programs like universal healthcare. the simple fact is you give someone more money and they will spend it. if you take money away from the and they will be more cautious with there money.so cut taxes and people will spend more. what do you get? a good economy. raise taxes the economy goes down. the last two years that bill clinton was in office the economy started to go down.
if it wasnt for bushs tax cuts two years later the economy would be horrible right now. it would be on the news like iraq and all the other things libs like to bash the president on. but they cant cause the economy is good.

How can anyone NOT think that conservative policy helps the economy? Your example of gas prices highlights your ignorance. Gas is a commodity that is effected by worldwide oil prices and supply, refining capability, and transportation costs. The push for ethanol (a joke) along with regulatory difficulties and expenses have discouraged oil companies from building more refining capacity. This chokepoint in the supply chain is the biggest reason gas is expensive, not some special back-door deal with rich guys. Get the liberals to stop trying to fight oil companies with regulations and make building refining capability inexpensive and the problem will solve itself.
Try to to spout off about things when you know nothing about them. Clearly you know little about economics.

Come on guy, you're smarter than that! The Bush Administration, Congress, and the Judicial systems run the COUNTRY. The market runs the ECONOMY. Let's say you start a business. Who sets the prices you charge? Who tells you how much to pay your employees? Never mind, its pointless because its logic and I suspect you're too wached out on liberal "lies." Do yourself a favor, study this issue objectively and find out for yourself.

Well, since the economy was in a recession when Bush was elected, and then went deeper due to 9/11, I'd have to say that 4.5% unemployment is pretty darn good [especially after absorbing and estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 added illegal workers every year].

Oh wait -- it is your personal economy that isn't working so well, isn't it?

Well, as the saying goes -- get a job.

To get a better job than what you've found so far -- learn or learn more. Let me clue you in, the Koreans, Chinese, and Indians are already working to learn more, so if you don't want them taking that job away from you, you'd better get to learning more.

Pretty simple, isn't it?

:-)

It's because Bush is making the economy better for some people. And those people happen to be exactly the same ones who run ABC, NBC, Fox, CNN, the Washington Post, etc. These multi-millionaires and billionaires who control our national media see to it that those who rely on them for information won't find out what a disaster Bush is.

This is a good question. Why do people fall for politicians lies? Someone said that the government is like a mirror and reflects the people. So go figure. If the government is stupid ... if the government is corrupt .... destructive .... etc. it is a reflection of the population.
