Hi there,

Kenmore Elite King Capacity Quiet Pak II 3 speed motor 6 combinations (I don't know if this is series 70, 80, 90 etc)
Model #110.20952992

My washer seems to have stopped spinning or agitating and it just makes a constant buzzing or humming sound. Does anyone know what's wrong and if there's an easy fix for that? The water drains but when pull the know out, it's just buzzing and not moving.

Is it possible I put too many clothes in there? I had towels and other clothes in there, seems it might have been too much for tha machine? I don't know. Please help. Thanks.

No, there is no burning smell that I noticed. If it's a drive belt, do you know of any website or instructions I can follow to fix it? I don't know much about fixing washers...thanks

Update: Ok, i drained all the water and took out all the soaking clothes and started a small wash again, it filled up with water, and then started going. It wasn't humming, it was agitating and making an unusual sound, so i started putting the clothes back in, but as I put more in it got slower and slower, apparently it doesn't seem that it's strong enough to agitate/spin with clothes weighing down on the middle 'stem' part and then when there's enough weight on there, then it stop spinning/agitating and thus the humming. Hopefully that's enough detail to get a more accurate assessment of what the problem might be? Thanks

This is a drive issue. The motor drives the agitator, using a belt or a drive shaft.

My bet is that the drive belt broke.

They cost $20 and take 15 minutes to replace.

It certainly could be a loose or broken belt, it also could be that the washer bowl is jambed, and the drive can not turn it. Do you smell a "hot" smell or " burning rubber" smell?

What could jamb the bowl? Well My bride of 30 years has was blessed with an ample chest, (36D), She is 5'-0" tall , hair down to the back of her knees, tiny waist and narrow hips - and this wonderful ... anyway, having been endowed like this, she has had to have an "underwire bra" since age 17. She wears a freah bra & panties each day - and forgets to slip the underwires out of the bras - every time before they go into the washer, infact I don't thing she knew she was supposed to remove the underwire before she washed them.

The underwire is a flat piece of spring steel with rounded rubbber coated ends, curved to fit the underside of the breast - and about 4 1/2" - 5" long. It seems that these support wires will fit perfectly through the drain holes in the inner basket of the washer. (SO I found out later)

Anyway, I took the washer apart , tested the controls - everyhting worked, the belts were fine - yet the drive shaft would not aggitate. I was getting ready to pull the aggitator and remove the inner tub when I dropped a pliers in the void between the inner bowl and the outer bowl. So I stuck my arm into the void, which was on a pivot that allowed me to get my arm in he void, and I found my pliers alright, but I also ran into a porcupine with a dull coat of neeedles - or so it seemed.I salvaged my pliers, and started picking porcupine "needles" out from the base of the inner basket where it met the axel joint of the outer tub and the axel panetary gear.head. And the needles I started pulling out by the handful turned out to be _(Yup - under-wire support bra wires).. By the time I was done I had about 50 of the support wires in front of me.

I put everything back together, pluged the washer back in, hooked up the HW & CW, and discharge hose, and set it for a short washcycle., and it worked just fine

most washers are belt driven. if the belt is broken or stretched out from age then it wont spin at all. you need to check the belt first.
