For pete's sake, don't NOT vote!

Best way to do it is to not pay attention to the soundbites on the news, or what the candidates are arguing about now. Instead, check out the candidates recent pasts. Specifically, look at their voting records and where they stand on the issues you really care about. You'll find that many of them govern as moderates but have to cater to the extreme sides of their parties in the primaries because the extremists (and the wackos in New Hampshire...j/k...I'm just jealous) are the only people who go out and vote in a primary election. Get involved NOW and get your friends involved so you have a chance to get the candidate you like actually nominated. Too many people wait until the general to pay attention and then are mad when the don't like Option A or Option B.

I don't know about the 3rd parties - it doesn't seem like they can be very effective. Still, historically speaking the two parties we have started as 3rd parties, didn't they??

Vote your conscience. That's all any of us can do. The important thing is to vote. Vote for a candidate who can never win if you have to. Just don't fall for the lesser of two evils argument, or the idea that your vote is being wasted if you don't toe the party line. The only reason a third party candidate can't win is because nobody can yet conceive it. When Minnesota got a third party candidate as Governor, the Democrats and Republicans fell all over themselves to learn how to cooperate with each other to make sure it didn't happen twice. Maybe a third or fourth or even fifth party is what we need to keep the two spoiled brats from dragging each other so far into the mud!

An independent candidate will no win in 2008 so unless you just want to make a point by not supporting the two major candidates that will do nothing. Get involved in the process now and pick a candidate you believe in and try to get them nominated so you have a voice in the election.

I would say pick one so your vote actually counts toward someone. If you really want to do justice, you should vote independent as you stated. This guy will never win, but at least you are voting how you really feel.

Uh, Fred Thompson IS far right.

I say wait a little longer as the debates unfurl and more independent and third party candidates throw their hats in the race.
