I am trying to use an equation involving alititude, and I need to know what the scientific notation or symbol for it is.

Generally, you can use inches, feet, miles, yards, etc in describing altitude. There isn't an 'altitude' symbol per se.

The symbol for altitude depends on what textbook you're using. It is sometimes denoted by a small letter "a" but most texts usually use "h" to denote the altitude or the displacement covered by the body.

I did my own research because, honestly, I did not find the answer and I found this:
"Equation of altitude AE is y = –3x + 9"
And in another part:
"EQUATION OF ALTITUDE THROUGH B IS : Y=";SPY3;"/";SPX3;"X";"
So, mathematicians use the letter "y" to designate altitude.

My advise is that, before typing the equation, you write a short explanatory note such as: "considering that altitude is represented by the letter Y, then.... "
