I am a 25 year old young woman with extremely low self-esteem. I never go out in public unless it is to work and back home again. I just can't stand dealing with the cruel, evil comments from people about the way that I look. So to protect myself from being hurt by their evil comments, I just stay in the house all day long and don't go out. That is the only time I actually feel good is when I am closed up inside and don't have to deal with the outside world. It's so ironic. I am african american and I only deal with this from people of my own race. Black people don't know how to treat each other anyways which is why alot of them don't get vary far in life. I don't have to deal with this b.s when I am around white people. White people just accept me for who I am. Can someone please offer me some advice. And please no silly jokes. I don't have time for them.

I heard this a million times when I was younger, but never really believed it until I got older: How you present yourself has more to do with how people respond to you than what you look like. If you come across as friendly and warm, people will like you (not everybody, but most...) If you come across as cold and reserved (which I suspect you do, because of your admittedly low self-esteem) people won't be drawn to you at all. And anybody who would judge you based on your looks (which I'd bet $1000 are better than you perceive them to be) isn't worth crap as a human being.

(Just as an aside to Marvin R, I happen to be attracted to balding, pot-bellied older guys. Especially hairy ones. Woo-Hoo!)

No, I absolutely don't care when others think lowly of me. Just so you know, I am a physics and computer nerd (not exactly the best-looking person around). However, most people I know just enjoy me for my knowledge, and I don't care for those who don't.

Thing is, though, I rarely go places besides Pizza Hut and Radioshack :]

Years of similar abuse drove me to agoraphobia & dissociative personality disorder--like you I wouldn't leave the house (& oh so much more.) Only therapy, not giving merit to the bleatings of the sheeple & breaking away from the brainwashing effects of TV helped me rise above the BS.
Realize first & foremost, however, that there is MUCH more to life than looks & that those who focus so much attention on appearance are usually terribly insecure & shallow, themselves.

Dont do that to yourself u are beautiful just as u are. Perhaps depression is distorting your views. The world is so distorted by wrong that any feeling of power over another is used for justifying wrong. Enjoy your life and you will find plenty of friends and others who like you for who u are. I do!

am a balding, pot - bellied, handicapped old man. and so I know I'm physically unattractive but those who take the time to know me realize there is more than the physical being. if you don't care to know me this is your loss -- not mine.
