"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

He's not appreciated but his doctrine is firmly ensconsed into our culture. Clearly when you combine... a strong military, a willingness to use it in a first strike fashion (read up on the lead into the invasion of Poland), a significant percentage of americans are protorture, americans are constantly threatened and the media works hard to keep the fear level high.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

After reading the Patriot Act I imagine the Nazi party of the 1930's would be impressed how all that propaganda was believed by anyone with the brains to tie their own shoes. The differences between them, so far Bush hasn't declared himself the permanent boss...both groups used big business to support war on innocent countries, and a list of comparisions could continue from there.

That's the big secret

Conservatives love what Herman Goering stood for...their actions prove it

but to admit as much is political suicide

so they practice their fascism under the facade of Americanism
