on most tapes and dvd's it says the movie is for example 90 minutes long is that the length of the movie plus all the advertisements at the begining or the length of the actual movie itself?

That is the movie itself including the credits at the end of the movie so from start to finish. Not including Previews, special features, etc.

If you look at a DVD it will say how long the movie is and then so Meany hours of special features. this was an example

It's the length of the movie itself. A lot of DVDs has a lot of special features on it...

The "running time" they say is the running time of the movie itself. Same goes with Moviefone. When they say "Knocked Up (2 hours and 20-whatever minutes)" that's the length of Knocked Up. Not the trailers that precede it.

for vhs, its the legnth of the WHOLE tape, DVDs its just the movie (the junk is before the dvd menu) this is little shorter than the ones above =)
