There is a similar divide between the political parties in the U.K.. In the U.K. if you were to syggest that someone was a retard or unpatriotic or a moron because they happened to have a different political allegiance then most Brits from any party would think you were a rather dangerous nutter. It`s seems almost as though Americans don`t want freedom of speech or democracy at all. At least that`s the impression I get from the comments I see on Yahoo answers.

For the ones that understand, truly there is no difference at the "top" of either party, only the pawns of the game think differently.

Hasn't always been the case, used to be when we talked about issues off our borders we stayed together for the country's good, now we forgot that policy. Politics here is big business and thus has become nasty. Not sure if the Brits are so perfect thought I have listened to the PM questions and Tony Blair gets slammed right on the floor of Parliament

I lived in the UK. I saw loud political discussions with insults and name calling between Brits just as you see in the US.

You are the condescending poster child for what a lot of Americans "get" from the comments of the British on YAnswers.

:::And I'm so glad you're in the UK, the biggest spreaders of hatred outside the Middle East

Andy R is correct

It's about the 5% who own 80% of the wealth tricking 40% + of the have-nots into believing that corporate wealth and their poverty are in fact.... the American way.

It's about being beaten by the police for peacefully practicing your first amendment right of freedom of speech, freedom to assemble. Conservatives don't believe in freedom of speech and have effectively denied it wherever they could.

It's about arresting people without probable cause

it's about imprisoning people without charging them with a crime

it's about torture

it's about attacking defensless sovereign
nations because they have oil

it's about giving up freedom for security because the corporate politicians are using their media to sell fear

It's about the greatness of American military might, and the end of American greatness

It's about the presidential elections that are flagrantly fixed, because the fixers control the media, control the message, the spin....conservatives don't believe in democracy

It's about American values and the corporate-conservative assault on same

When Germany invaded Poland did you ask "Why can't Poland get along with Germany"

because you are asking that question now

The divide between conservative/liberal political philosophies has always been antagonistic. Check English and American history.

The divide is really about the 5% who control 80% of the wealth.

You are being oppressed.

I wish there was a good answer for your question, but there isn't. Those guilty of doing nothing more than slander their opponents (I am one of them) either refuse to admit their opponents have a point, and have nothing better to do than call them "stupid" or are simply tired of trying to respond to some thoughtless questions/statements with class and reason.

Just my guess.
