I read your other question. Dish soap may take the wax off. So you wax it. You were going to anyway, right? Wash it like you do the car. Don't get water in the air filter, or up the exhaust. Other than that, no worries. If you ever pressure wash, then there a couple things to look out for. A garden hose will do no harm.

I wash my Harley just like a car. I have even taken it to a do it yourself car wash and used the power wand. There really isn't much to worry about. You can ride it in the rain right? the only difference is that the motor will not be on to blow out the pipes. Don't spray down the pipes. Use a chamois or dry cloth to dry it off when you are done. Be careful because the brakes will be wet if you are going to ride immediately. The seat will likely be wet too.
Another trick a guy taught me once that I use about half of the time. If your bike is just dusty or very lightly dirty... clean it with furniture polish. It needs to have carnuba wax in it and if you spray it on actual dirt it can and likely will scratch the paint. But I spray a section like half of the tank and polish it off. Once you are all done then take a clean dry rag and buff it. It really works great and cleans and waxes in one step.

Ok dont trip I see where your coming from here. When you wash your bike try not to get it extremly wet especially in the area where the engine is at. After you wash and dry your bike let the motorcycle run for atleast ten minutes to dry up any water that could have got into any engine parts. I usually take my bike for a few minute ride just to be sure. If water ends up geting into the engine and not drying it may make it hard for your bike to start or your bike my end up miss firing which in return you will have to take it appart and blow the air out. Its a pain believe me

If you regularly clean your motorcycle you will rarely have to put water to it. I only use soap and water if I've got lotsa bug on it. I've been using a spray called protect all. Most motorcucle dealers sell it. Comes in a blue can. Spray on, wipe off. No soap or wax required. I started using this stuff 25 years ago. A big can lasts an entire active season and more.Use it everywhere, yes the windshield too.

If done on a weekly basis, you should never have to use water on your bike. Try using a spray on cleaner, then wiping it off. You can find cleaners designed fo rthis very purpose. Then use a product like Motul Silicone Cleaner after you have cleaned it. This puts a protective layer of silicone on the surface that helps keep the dirt and grease from bonding to the surface. Do this weekly, and it should only take about 10 minutes each time, with your bike looking shiny and new for the duration of the week.

If you have a sports bike then the best thing to use is Plexus. It's sold at every motorcycle dealership easy to use and you can do it everyday before you go off riding. It's a spray wax and it works very well!

Put it in the washer, warm water, half a cap full of detergent. Set it for "gentile" or it might get wrinkled during the spin cycle.
Dry on low, or lay flat on a towel.
Or go to your local bike shop and get a spray bottle of cycle shine, park the bike in a shady area, wet it..spray on the cycle shine, wait a few minutes and rinse, then towel dry (or drive around for a few minutes to blow dry) The cycle shine helps prevent drips and streaks. But from your question, I see we already have a drip.
