What do you think the world would be like without freedom of Speech?

Would the world change at all without freedom of speech?? Please tell me what you think

Like North Korea - ruled by a cruel dictator, brainwashing, concentration camps, massive poverty, famine, etc.

Where does your freedom of speech end . Should we be allowed to say anything we want .
Since people can be mean spirited where does it end .
Say something often enough and people will begin to believe it .
I almost believe the hype about Bush losing his mind . Look at video from his earlier years in Texas and todays video and you can see a marked change in his alertness and speaking ability .
That Roosevelt was crippled by polio was never a big issue with the press .
Now almost every sentence is analyzed for any possible variety of meanings based on the words used .
Can some one say a spade is a spade today .
Or has political correctness allowed only a " I call it like i see it ".
So if we truly have any free speech then it is already limited by what is acceptable on television , radio ,and in school classrooms .
With people still arguing creation-vs-evolution . Its like saying 2+2 has many possible answers .
When your speech harms another human beings life that speech needs to be censored .

I object to free speech .
You can not teach people and tell them that God heals through prayer .
A giant warning label should be applied to the doors of every church just like we have on coffee cups today .
It should say for entertainment purposes only and not to be taken literally . As you read the bible stoning adulterous people and having slaves and going to war and killing people seems perfectly acceptable .
Those people who do these things go to jail . You can not argue you herd the voice of God telling you to kill your wife and her lover .
Some speech and its resulting actions must be contained and placed in the proper context so that people understand .
Simple labels like conservative and liberal can not compensate for the true harm caused by some speech people intend to achieve a goal when the goal has no merit at all .

There are places where people do not have freedom of speech. It would be a terrible existence not to be able to speak out and to have no rights to try to change things for the better.

First of all the "world" does not have freedom of speech. Try Sweden or Venezuela, they put you in jail there for opposing the government.

Secondly with political correctness and sensitivity training in the US we are already well on the way to not having it here.

So it will not look a lot different, you will just have to learn more politically correct ways of saying what you want.

Won't that be effing wonderful.

Most of the world does not have freedom of speech. The US is probably one of the most far reaching when you consider how even our ally the UK can severely limit speech about the monarchy.

As somebody once said, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend with my life, your right to say it."
It would be scary to live in a world where only one opinion was allowed. Not only because you could not question authority but also because you would never have the opportunity to open your mind to new ideas. It would limit thinking. The world would be a sad place indeed.

We have plenty of examples of that throughout the world.
Islamic dictatorships are a good example, as are several African dictatorships.
China comes close, but has greater confidence in their ideology and thus doesn't restrict speech completely (they come close).

Socialists countries are VERY careful not to allow free speech. Even now, the socialists in my party (democrat) are trying to restrict free speech, putting their ideology ahead of our American values.

They don't speak for me.
