Why do some people say like a lot?

Like they'll say it in every sentence like this. "Like omg that is like so like hideous I mean like its like so like weird" That's what I'm talking about

idk, like it's so like addictive, for real though, sometimes when i'm explaining stuff i always have to say like, it's sounds retarded.

ha! well since the bad habit of saying 'like' extends amongst all people, the question works here too :) "like" is a filler word. it indicates that someone either (1) does not have a clearly and fully formed thought before speaking or (2) is not sure how to express a clearly formed thought (i.e. embarrassed, not sure how other will take it). i'm sure there are other reasons, but there's my two cents.

uhh
and umm

ever watch the news or weather channel where the speaker is like
well,, uh. over here we have some umm.
and uhh yeah.

i think "Uhh" and "umm" are just as bad as "like"
they're just fillers that you say while your brain is trying to complete the round of sending words to your mouth.. lol

I don't know.
The one I hate is where people start out their question: So my bf and me...(don't schools teach grammar anymore?)
Why not just say, "My boyfriend and I..." The "so" is not necessary in this context.
