Here are some points you can research and then you draw your own suppositions.
More AMericans as a percent of the population have been able to buy homes in the last six years more than ever before in history. So the economy has to be good for that to happen? Yes or No?
The income gap, the so called difference between the lowest 20% of income earners and the highest 20%, has closed at a pace faster than ever before in history. The middle class is expanding faster than ever before in history. Keep in mind, those terms middle class and how the income is divided into quintiles is somewhat subjective, but the facts speak pretty loudly that the robust economy of the last few years has helped all AMericans improve themselves.
Lastly, Federal Revenues as a percent of GDP are higher than ever before in history, in other words the economy is churning along at such a vigorous pace that tax revenues are higher than ever before.
SO after you research those facts and look at it as empirical evidence I think you will be able to make a pretty good argument.
Keep in mind that if your position is that the economy is great be prepared to take some serious heat from perhaps your teacher and your peers. Agreeing that AMerica is doing well today is not popular in academia, although it is right. You see Americas culture is under attack, and to say anything good about America goes against this war on our culture.
Good luck.

No, Bush is not the worst president and history will prove it to be so. I agree 100% with the previous posters that said Clinton is right up there. This whole economic mess has more to do with Bill Clinton than George Bush. The only thing that has surprised me is how fast Clinton's crap came back to bite us in the backside.

i wont go into all the things the president has done or haulted since his first term. but at the end of 2008 as projected the total spent will have reached about 752 billion(give or take a few billion) dollars spent. thats alarming and appauling when people all over this country are starving, people dont realize that extreme poverty is a problem in some parts of this country. The worst part is that the problems dont seem to be getting any better with the war total and the companies going fold here. I live about 40 minutes from GM headquarters, 10 from Daimler headquarters, and 30 or so from ford headquarters and its getting so bad for working class. The rest of the country doesnt kno what kind of enormous wave is about to sweep our economy. he has done good things in some areas, but the money spent on this war is just mind boggling

Initially, in my opinion, Bush had little influence on the economy. The dot-com bubble was going to burst with or without him. Also, the recovery that followed the economic crash I would attribute to the actions of the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve lowered interest rates to make it easier for companies to borrow money, grow, and hire new employees.
However, I do think that some things that Bush has done pose huge problems for the future of our economy. In particular, cutting taxes so that we have to borrow money from other countries in order to keep the country running, this is a dagerous rode to go down. Our currency is worth less and less compared to other countries' currency. The choice to go to, and sustain, wars abroad fuels saps our money. The medicare drug benefit bill, that was passed by a Republican Congress and signed by President Bush, forbids the government from negotiating bulk rate discounts for drugs from pharmaceuticle companies. This make the program way more expensive than it had to be, this provision clearly benefits big pharma and not the American People. This Medicare bill will be particularly expensive because the "Baby Boom" gereation is about to retire so there will be a huge amount of people drawing these benefits with a proportionally smaller amount of people working to support the economy.
Those are my thoughts to your question. Luckily for us, the president is not the only one who impacts the economy. The Federal Reserve has a lot of power and business cycles flow up and down regardless of who the president is. However, I would say that this President has done as much harm as any to the economic security of our country.

A few sectors of the US economy are doing well but overall it is pretty stagnate. Individuals in the upper 5% income brackets have also felt gains due to Bush. The gains that have come about have been at a high price. The Iraq war has benefitted many US companies but the price paid in historic deficits and long term drains upon the US will, in the long run, prove costly.

It's obviously been GREAT for this country! Heck, look at the stock market and the low unemployment rate. He's also done this while spending a lot of money (that most Presidents never had to worry about) to fight the war on terrorism after 9/11. To think that this happened after only a few months on the job and he's had to deal with this same issue over 2 terms and our economy is stronger than ever is a testimonial to the fact that he's done a lot of good things economically for the U.S. Also, in that same period of time (almost 8 years) we've only lost a little over 2000 soldiers in Iraq. During this same time period in Vietnam, we lost over 50,000 soldiers but President Bush has been criticized for his handling of Iraq much worse than Nixon was criticized for his handling of Vietnam and look at Nixon's economic record - Stagflation!!!
Of course, President Bush's views on illegal immigration are something else altogether and is one of the few issues that should really leave a stain on his record.

Poor management...if he was the President of your business you would have fired him by now.
For the Guy below me...
Low Unemployment because everyone benefit has run out and they're no longer counted. Bush (and his dad) are negative in job creation. Home sales are high because of deregulation have reduced standards on offering mortgages which will mean that more unqualified credit people will be leveraged to the hilt and foreclosures will be the highest it ever will be. Your political belief have you blind sided where you will justify anything of this man because you are a YES MAN. You are a BUSH type of GUY!

Low unemployment, highest existing home sales in three years, robust stock market. President Bush received a failing economy from the last administration, and now it is strong. I would have to say it is the best it has been in years.
God Bless America our Troops and Commander in Chief !!!
