I want a decent bike that I can carry a girl around on. I've been a crotch rocket guy but those arn't the best. I saw these Sportsters going for around 6k but are they a girls bike?

A girl's bike?
Look at bicycles. A girls bike has the top tube lower, so it's easy to lift a leg over or wear a skirt.
Look at motorcycles. No such difference.
What kind of bicycles do most girls ride nowadays?
A girl's bike is whatever she is willing / able to throw a leg over. From a moped up to a full-size touring machine.
A Sportster is a motorcycle, and it won't care what sex you are. As long as you don't wear a skirt.

The Sportster does have a bit of a "girl's bike" image. But especially the 883. The 1200 can be made up as a performance bike, so doesn't quite have the same stigma to it. But this attitude is changing anyway. A lot of women are buying the bike Harleys now, and some guys can't afford anything beyond a Sportster, so the line is becoming more blurred. Basically, buy the bike you want. If you like it, then it's your bike. If anyone gives you a hard time, you can just say you're not compensating for anything, so you're happy with your bike.

The people that say the 883 is a girls bike are a bunch of idiots.It is the smallest bike in the Harley line-up but by no means a girls bike.If it was the only Harley I could afford then that is what I would ride.You can go with the 1200 kit when the money comes in. If you are a taller rider put a set of highway pegs or forward controls on it and a Sundowner seat for comfort, then you'll be ready to hit the highway. Don't let anyone discourage you by calling it a girls bike,it's not. Good luck , hope to see ya out there on your 883.

Hell No a Sporty1200 is no girls bike! maybe if it had
pink tassels or streamers hanging from the bars and
a pink tank but I doubt women will do that.
Second, I don't think a woman is going to tell a guy
he is riding a girls bike so I am willing to say it is
a guy making a dumb-*** remark, probably in good
humor for that matter. I get a lot of ribbing but I have
a sporty in damn good condition, I don't care, the bike
runs like a bat outa hell and if I took a dump, I could
pick it back up.
And Thirdly, it is not so much what you ride BUT
that you do ride

NO! Unless a girl owns it. Seriously, girls are & have been riding all sizes & models of Harleys for years. Further, riders have become so displacement oriented that they forget that in the 1960's & 1970's a 650cc was considered a "big" bike & many people toured on Honda 360s & 450's w/what is now 40yo technology! Sportsters offer a good power to handling match, they are a great ride. Note, if you have long legs you may find forward controls helpful. I'd recommend shopping used, there are a lot of low mileage machines loaded w/expensive extras available & if they have less than 50k on the odometer you can buy the factory extended warranty w/$50. deductible.

the sportster of old had a hell of alot of power in comparison to the bikes of today. maybe because the epa has choked them in epa regs. the sportsters of the 50's and 60's were crankin out an astonishing 90 hp for those days, and for today, a sportster that can bust out 90 hp to the rear wheel definately aint a sissy bike.
i really dont care if u call sportsters a girls' bike.....u aint the 1 riding it. i wanted a harley, and all i could afford is a sportster. and in the twisties, i'm having a lot of fun on this so-called 'girls' bike'.

NO A SPORTSTER IS NOT A GIRLS BIKE. LET ME TELL YOU A HARLEY IS A HARLEY. MY 883 CAN KEEP UP WITH A 1200. SO FOR YOU GUYS THAT THINK THERE GIRLS BIKE'S YOUR WRONG.

A girls bike generally has flowery decals and glitzy stuff, braids hanging from the handlebars and like that. Some are even pastel colored. I know a girl with an FLHR that has roses on the points cover. My Sportster is all black and runs mid to low 11's.

Its only a girls bike if a girl owns it, I personally like the look of the sportster and it is the least expensive Harley to buy new.

No, it's a motorcycle! I really don't believe their is such a thing as a girls bike. A good friend of my, girl, rides a Harley Ultra Classic. What ever you want to ride is what you should ride. It's all about the love of the bike and the joy you recieve! I say go for it!
