I've always changed my own tires and I know what yuou mean about them being "welded on", I once bent a tire iron on a lug nut that wouldn't break loose by jumping on the iron.

Plenty of times, most recently after running over a bolt in Vegas. But we also have AAA+, and if my wife is alone & has a flat, she just calls them.

Several times over the years. Most important thing to remember is to "break" the bolts before you jack it up.
