One of my Biology professors chuckled and said, clearly eggs (other than chicken eggs) have been around much longer than domesticated chickens. ;-)

Yes there is. It's the egg. Fish and reptiles were laying eggs long before there were any birds at all, let alone chickens. Also, consider this: what did the very first bird that we would call a chicken come from? Obviously, an egg, laid by a bird that had to have been very much LIKE a chicken, but not quite a chicken.

BP, your biology professor is correct.

There have been eggs around a lot longer than there have been chickens.
