You should definitely check out some Nicholas Sparks. You can't go wrong there! (The Notebook, A Walk To Remember, Message in a Bottle, True Believer, At First Sight (sequel to True Believer, so read that one first if you decide you want to read At First Sight) are all books that I have read and are all AMAZING!)
Jodi Picoult also deals with romance in some of her books such as 'The Pact', 'Mercy', 'Picture Perfect' etc. And you will enjoy her writing. She is a stupendous writer. You should really check her out, too. =)

Sharon Flake is an excellent African American Teen writer.
But there are several African American adult romance writers that you might like as well Kimberla Roby. Zane is popular but she has graphic sexual content.
