Money.
New York tries to be the center of the world and is definately close to the center of the worlds news. Even if the Yankees had a worse record than the Royals, the press would cover them when they are playing Boston much more than covering two teams that are both well over .500 and both fighting it out for first place.
Boston is so far ahead of the Yankees right now even a sweep gets them in the range of 10 games back. That's right TEN GAMES. Cleveland won the series against Detroit last weekend and are on the verge of doing it again this weekend when both teams are within a series sweep of taking over first place. It doesn't make sense, but the money isn't in Cleveland and Detroit, it's in New York.
Did anyone notice that Cleveland and Detroit have a helluva good basketball series going on now and the Yankees-Sox series STILL gets more press? Money my friends, ESPN and the others aren't stupid, they want the money. Who cares if good sports are being played if they aren't being played in New York, they're not being played.

Detroit and Cleveland last night was one of the best games all season to watch, It had everything, except pitching, but that is where it ends as far as the press is concerned. Anytime the Yankees and Red Sox play it is going to get top billing because it is probably the top rivalry in baseball and that is what the fans want to read and hear about.

The fact is this NYY/Boston series is crap. It means nothing. Everyone is baseball knows NYY are not going to catch Boston.
Now the Tigers and Indians are two teams playing for something. I don't really care if the Indians are given the respect or not--they are going to get it by seasons end anyhow. ESPN is the reason people don't know who Ryan Garko is. It's why people don't know that Victor Martinez is not only one of the best two hitting catchers in MLB --but one of the best hitters in MLB. It's why people don't know that Jhonny Peralta is one of the best hitting S.Stops in MLB.
They will though. I don't fault ESPN for Boston games-hell Boston is a great team. But so is Cleveland--and NYY isn't and won't be this year-Clemens be damned.

Gee, I read a lot about the Cleveland comeback on Yahoo Sports. I don't know what you are complaining about. The Yankees are always going to be news, win or lose. BUT, I think the reporting on the Indians-Tigers game was thorough.
Chow!!

Yankees Redsocks, the most known rivalry in sports almost. Its all about publicity, people want to hear about that, not the cleveland game...I agree its a lot better news but they dont care about the best game in the MLB, they care about the most watched, or best known.
