None, pure and simple. Adding snails will only add to the total waste in the tank. Nothing will replace adequate water changes and cleanings.

There really isn't any point in getting a snail for that. Sure there are snails that will rummage through the bottom eating missed food, and waste. But it doesn't help any. Food ~= ammonia/nitrate. It does matter if food is eaten or not it still produces ammonia waste products. The ammonia is converted into nitrite, and later nitrates. The nitrates just continue to build up. Thus you need to clean the gravel with a gravel vacuum/siphon, and change 20-30% of your water every week.

PS- If you want to get a snail to eat algae or just to have one. I reccommend a apple/mystery snail, or a trapdoor snail. Unlike rams horns, and the tiny pond snails you get sometimes with plants. Apple/mystery, and trap door snails need a mate to reproduce.

PPS- Note adding a snail doesn't increase the bioload. The bioload is due to food not animals. (Of course more fish generally means you put in more food.) A 10 gallon tank easily has enough food for one snail without needing extra food. A 30 gallon tank could have 3.

As almost everyone has said, no fish will, but you could limit the amount of wasted food by adding 2-5 yo-yo loaches. They are extremely active, day and night, playful, and mine never nip each other. If you have a 10 gallon tank with room, try adding 2, anything larger, keep 3 or more. Most stores say they get 6 inches, but they generally stay around 4 inches.

I asked the same question at several local aquariums... the answer was the same everywhere- there are none. Just try to get some bottom-feeder fish (maybe catfish or loaches) that are appropriate for your tank's temperature and water-type environment and will get along with the other fish. They will take care of the wastes great! I have 2 clown loaches and they do an awesome job!!!

Ok my original answer was to use Preperation H bt I found an article that lists some things to help prevent bags and puffiness. Hope it helps! PS: The reason I changed my answer from Preperation H is after reading the article, it debunks the myth that the cream helps.
