Self esteem is not about being better than anyone else. It's about being the best version of yourself you can be. Vanity and ego are what cause you to compare yourself to others.

you described arrogance not self esteem.... self esteem means self nurtured from the inside out... people who do it from the outside in don't ever get self esteem... When you have self esteem you don't need someone else's opinion. People who put you down to make them feel better have no self esteem. building inner self esteem is like competing only against yourself no others... for example you make goals... to make it simple lets say you want to be able to type 50 words a minute... the first time you try you do 20/m you keep competing with yourself till you reach your goal getting a little better every time... It never depends on how fast or slow anyone else types. It's not a matter of being the best at everything it's a matter of nurturing what you need... it's not about being perfect its about being perfectly YOU.

might have a little bit to do with that but that is not everything, that is not always the way it is, most people that I know of that have low self esteems just have a low self esteem because they are not good at this or that or they don't look as good as they want to, but I am glad to hear you find it dumb and so therefor you will not have a low self esteem over something or anything for that matter then hopefully,

"Self Esteem" is one of the leading psychological issues in the 21st century.
Did you know there are 7,670,000 entries on google.com alone?
Healthy self esteem means we are able to judge ourselves accurately. When our self esteem level is high, we can survive the ups and downs that make up life.
My self esteem has nothing to do with your skill levels or abilities.
I didn't come from a background that nurtured self esteem. There was much ridicule and criticism while I was growing up as well as during my marriage. It's taken a lot of hard work and the support of professionals and trustworthy friends to firmly cement my healthy sense of self.
Self esteem is not dumb. It is the single-most thing we can do to make this a better world. For if each one of us is secure in who we are, we can better help our friends and neighbors to become the best they can be. In parting, I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes:
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." --Ghandi

Good point, but with self esteem, you aren't comparing yourself with other people. You're seeing yourself, like self-concept but it's the way you feel and think about yourself to consider whether you find yourself good enough for yourself, not for others.
But I mean, I can share your opinion about self esteem. I don't like the idea of it, and that we're expected to have a lot of it to be considered a good person, and when we don't have a lot of it, we have "issues."

its not about how good you are at a thing!
its how much you try, your dedication and spirit that counts. not whether you win/lose or are good at it or not.
you can have self-esteem as long as you are true to yourself, and put your heart in what you do. Then, comparisons don't matter.

It isn't about comparisons.
It's about seeing yourself as a worthwhile person.
It's about accepting that you have both strengths and weaknesses (and that everyone else does, too).
It's about not being bothered at this person being better at x than you are.
