I've already spent way too much money on the so called " invention marketers" and i think they're a big joke. I would rather do it myself but have no where to look at the moment.

Here are two online guides from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website that should contain all the information you need to know about filing a patent on your own. There are also many good books on the subject, but I would advise following these guides to the letter if you are going to file a patent application pro se (i.e., without an attorney):

Guide to Filing A Design Patent:
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/design/index.html

Guide to Filing A Utility Patent:
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/utility/utility.htm

You should also be able to find any other forms and additional information you need on: www.uspto.gov

Before you file anything on your own, though, be sure to hire someone to do a patent search for you, to make sure it is not already patented. Good luck!!

Advice is worth what you pay for it.

I co-hold three patents. Our attorneys were found after a very careful search including checking their 'win the suit' rate for other patents they'd filed before we hired them.

Serious patent work will likely cost in the vicinity of $75,000 or so for the first country. that buys you a year in which to market your product and decide if you want to spend the approximately $75,000 additional dollars for 'world-wide' coverage.

Of course, nothing will get you actual coverage in a country like China where the courts won't rule in favor of a foreigner come H or high water. [Or if they do, you'll find the terms effectively prohibit you from collecting.]

Just look at my website (www.edgarmnashbooks.com) and you will see I have been that route a long time ago, and have produced a self-help guidebook for novice inventors who are fed up with the greedy patent attorneys. My book sells well on Amazon, and teaches absolutely everything (including how to do the drawings in the unique manner required by the USPTO) you need to properly apply for a utility patent. If you want a copy of "PATENT YOUR IDEA YOURSELF WITHOUT AN ATTORNEY" don't buy from Amazon because they charge about five bucks or more for delivery to you, in addition to the cost of a book. At my site you can buy it for $19.95 including packing and shipping.
