I like charcoal grills, but I have a gas grill. Most grill afficianados like charcoal, but agree it's easier to control temperature with gas. Also, there isn't a big mess of ash to deal with. Flavor in the food remains similar.
The best answer may have been written by the person who wrote, "charcoal but we use gas." That sums it up in a nutshell.

Charcoal, might as well cook inside on the stove as to use a gas grill.

Gas grill! Charcoal leaves that lighter fluid taste in the food (unless you use real WOOD charcoal, then thats ok)

Charcoal is nice, but unless you're cooking for ten or more people the price of a bag of charcoal makes it pointless. Therefore, gas is better.

To me charcoal gives a much better flavor though gas is cleaner and safer as long as you are careful with the tank.
