The most important vit to take during pregancy so my doctor tell me is Folate.
a deficiency of folate has been associated with neural tube defect. This chance is increase if you have had prior pregnancy with this complication.
Generally though you should be fine since you are eating well. I would see your obstetrician/gyncologist, or even your family doctor, he/she usually has free samples of pre-natal vitamins to give out. (my doctor get tons from the Pharmaceutical reps).
As a woman who has had 4 kids, I should warn you that your body will always place the needs and well being of your child before you. So if you are not getting enough calcium, minerals or vitamins in your food, the baby will get those from your bones and body tissue.
Little parasites.....but they're so cute when their born. :-)LOL

Hi there,
There are many things that your developing baby needs that you cannot get no matter how well you eat. The most prominant of these is Folic Acid. It is of primary importance for the healthy development of your baby. Read up on it a bit and find out some of the birth defects that can be caused by the lack of it. I am sure you would rather take a pill every day that face losing your baby. It is just plain silly to take such a serious risk with the life and health of your baby when you have access to prenatal vitamins. We are so lucky to live in a world where they are available to us.
On the other hand, your body will take what it can get from YOU to make sure the baby gets what it needs. In other words, the baby will come first. Not taking your vitamins will leave you "with the short end of the stick", you will be the one that will suffer from vitamin deficiency. There again, some vitamins and minerals are just not there in sufficient quantities to fill the needs of a developing baby.
I am sure that you want to give your baby the best that you can. You really need to take your prenatal vitamins now and until you are finished nursing your baby. You will want to breastfeed for at least 6 months to give the baby the best start in life that he or she can have, it is so important.
Do some research, you will be convinced I am sure.
Take care of yourself. Get lots of rest, this is a great time to read and take naps!
Love and Blessings

I don't take prenatel vitamins either. I have trouble swallowing pills, so I take flintstone complete vitamins instead. Also I take a folic acid and iron suppliment. But those pills are very small and easy to take. And I take chewable calcium tablets,2 a day. I also try to eat right and drink plenty of water.

Prenatal supplements are there to ensure healthy and safe pregnancy as well as healthy birth outcomes. However everyone is different.
Prenatal vitamins are also there to supplement your diet if you are lacking in certain vitamins from foods you're not consuming. Although many women do well without, it's a risk you're taking by not taking it. I would encourage taking it now and finish it after you delivery to make up for all the nutrients loss during delivery. You can find a wealth of prenatal nutrition info on the net. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Do not get a perm while pregnant. Chemicals pass through the skin and might hurt your baby. You can't live on vitamins when you're pregnant, start eating, you want a health baby, Right? If you don't get nourishment from food your baby's health will suffer, and then you will suffer because you'll be looking at a baby that is not healthy.

I couldn't take mine at first because they made me so sick. I have taken them though throughout the second and third trimester. I am being induced on Tue. I have heard many people say they didn't take theirs and their babies are completely healthy. There are books you can read that give you certain foods that have lots of iron and folic acid in them. The folic acid is really important. You could just eat lots of those foods and drink milk.

I didn't take mine either, they made me violently ill, and backed me up something fierce.
Try a multivitamin if you feel like you aren't getting enough nutrients, and talk to your doctor at your next visit. She may have a better alternative. The most important thing is folic acid, and in the first few weeks of pregnancy, it has been show to reduce the chance of birth defects. You can get it in orange juice, and other things.

i didn't take one for the first three months b/c they made me SO sick...even the ones my dr. prescribed to me...you SHOULD however take folic acid tablets and eat well. at about 14 weeks i started to take 1/2 a tablet a day...my dr was fine with this as the baby and i were both very healthy....just think, prenatals are a good supplement but they are more for you...your baby will take all it needs from you and you get the leftovers...but your body does need to be healthy for your baby...women 50 years ago didn't have prenatals and our mom's, aunts, etc turned out just fine :)

we just had the same issue, mom couldnt take them because they made her sick. If you can take 1/2 vitamin instead of a whole one, great. but otherwise, just eat well, and look for alternate sources of iron, the main benefit of pre-natal vitamins. Dont worry, as long as you have well rounded nutrition, and no special conditions like anemia, you will be fine.

I know prenatal vitamins are very important but I physically could not take them. I threw up everyday for 9 months when I was pregnant with my daughter. I couldnt even swallow them, I would get sick just trying to swallow them.
WIth my son I was sick everyday for 6 months, same thing.
