no, bankruptcy is a civil action.

That said, if you lie to the bankruptcy court [as by concealing assets or income] that is a felony.

So if you must file for bk, do it honestly. The possible felony rap and prison sentence aren't worth what you'd try to hide.

Criminal offenses are things specifically prohibited by law. Bankruptcy is specifically allowed by law. Need I say more?

Why would it be criminal when it's a legal process you go through? It's a second chance, and hopefully you will learn and adjust as a result of it.

No, it is just standard practice for Republicans when their firms have to pay out after being caught in their criminal acts.

It's a legal federal procedure to discharge debts.

The only issue might be fraud if you tried to go on a spree and max your credit, THEN try to declare. But you can't do that.
