Regular routine maintenance. Keep your fluids clean and topped up, keep your filters clean and keep your tires inflated. Imagine trying to go for a jog wearing flip-flops. Not very easy is it. That's how your car feels when driving on low tires. Next time you're in bed, stick your head under the covers for ten minutes. Not very easy breathing is it? That's how your car feels when trying to bring oxygen into the system through dirty filters. Go two days without water. That's how your engine feels when oil pressure is low or dirty.
All of this adds up to a healthy and happy engine. Which translates into smoother running and saves on allot of gas.

Carpool, take a bus, don't go anywhere unless you have to, or you could always do it how my grandma does it save all your old change and cash it and use it for gas money, or bid on a gas card on ebay.

Organize all your errands. Run them all on the same day starting with the one furthest from home & working backwards. Of course this takes some planning especially if you are grocery shopping, recycling, etc. If you don't go to work each day limit your "joy" trips to one aweek rather than one a day. Learn to love the homefront.
