You can't solve something that's not an equation. An equation must have an equals sign in it. You have provided what we call an expression.

As before, I will assume that the product given is equal to 0.

(7x-40)(4x+5) = 0
7x-40 = 0 and 4x+5 = 0
7x = 40 and 4x = -5
x = 40/7 and x = -5/4
x = 5 5/7 and -1 1/4

If your question was for (7x-40)(4x+5)=0

Then
x = -1.25
or
x = 40/7 =~ 5.714

Method:
multiply both sides by (7x-40) to give 4x+5=0
so 4x=-5
or
multiply both sides by (4x-5) to give 7x-40=0
7x=0

is this = 0?
If so:-
7x = 40 ,4x = - 5
x = 40/7 , x = - 5/4

multiplying the terms
(7x - 40)(4x + 5) = 28x^2 +35x - 160x - 200 =
=28x^2- 125x- 200
solving this simultaneous equation
x=8
or
x=-1.75
