Just a few months ago every other question was about how many games the Cubs would win and who they were going to play in the World Series. Granted, we're less than half way through the season, but I think you can count the Cubbies out of the postseason, no?

Given their history, you can pretty much count the Cubs out before the season starts. :)

Seriously, though, I think the injuries to Wood and Prior set a tone at the start of the season that they've not been able to overcome. Losing two starters like that has hurt their pitching depth (though they seem more vulnerable in relief, given that they've only converted 11 of 21 save opportunities).

On offense, it seems like they're making contact but not getting enough out of it. Consider RBI: Aramis Ramirez is 9th in the NL. Derrek Lee is the next Cub at 23rd. Then you go to 49th, where Michael Barrett sits.

Then there's the Soriano signing, which had mixed reviews at the time and isn't panning out the way the Cubs had hoped. I can't imagine he won't bring his numbers up, but he'd better do it soon.

I don't think the Cubs are completely done, but after yesterday's fight I think some of the players may be feeling that way. Clubhouse ugliness is never a good sign.

The best thing the Cubs have going for them now is that their divison isn't the most impressive. If they can right the ship a bit, they may be able to feast on the other teams and get into wild card contention. I'd not put money on it, but stranger things have happened.

He Didn't "Screw Up" The Cubs Chance At Making The Playoffs. The Cubs Are Just Blamming It On Him Because They Havent Been To the World Series In Forever. That Ball Was Well In The Stands And The Cubs Cry-baby (Alou) Could Never of caught it

the season is far from over its not the end of the world. things can still be turned around. they are not the team with the worst record in the league but they still get the spotlight because they are the cubs. they have a great lineup on paper and its only a matter of time before they start clicking. look at the whitesox in 05 they sucked before the all star game. the big test for the team will be the bullpen. they suck! which hurts to say as a cub fan. Eyre and Ohman are the biggest disappointments. They remind me of Alfonseca a few years ago. Come on Lou send them to iowa. I think your better off taking a chance on new fresh talent from the minors then sticking to these proven losers. im still pretty sure the cubs will make the postseason. i think milwaukee will choke and the rest of the div is playing just as bad as the cubs so its up for grabs. gotta like their chances.

The cubs are done. Right now they are 7.5 games out of the Central and 9 out of the wildcard. Unless a big change happens, which won't considering its the Cubs, they are done. In the begining of the season everyone was all excited because they finally had some good players. Right now that just looks like a big waste of money.

No offence but the Cubs arn't gonna do much. They are in a slump and I don't see it getting any better. I mean, c'mon, they haven't won a world series since like 1908. I don't see it happening any year soon unless they get Alfonso swinging to his expectations and get a more consistant bullpen and starting staff and when Carlos is gone. They need to find something better to do with that money instead of blowing it on Carlos. Hes probably the biggest disappointment in baseball this year.

Yes the Cubs are out of the Post Season, and as long as they quit fighting with each other they will remain a Favorite of many people..
afterall they are deemed the Lovable Losers..if they would Win that would change that perspective.

The Cubs have a great team (on paper). Unfortunately they fight too much and can't win ball games. But with a lineup of Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Lilly, Hill, they can still turn it around if they stop fighting and figure it out. It could take some time.

are you surprised? Derek Lee is having a great year and swinging the bat with runners in scoring position (RISP)..i dont know any of their center fielder or right fielder but i think they still have some holes to fill...not impressed with Dempster as closing role and bad luck with prior and kerry wood. still love wrigley field.

Yes. They have decided to stop fighting to win games and just start fighting each other.
