"Poolside" got me thinking of ocean stories ...

How about MEG by Steve Alten. Basically, it's a giant-shark thriller story. There's a little science, but not a lot, so the story doesn't make all that many intellectual demands on you in order to enjoy it.

Alten's written two other books in the same series (titles are The Trench and Primal Waters), and it becomes even less intellectually demanding as it goes on. The third book gets a little cheesy in that it has an actual "jumping the shark" moment. :-P

Watermelon by Marian Keyes. Something Borrowed and Something Blue or Babyproof by Emily Giffin the first 2 are a series and need to be read in order. For heavier reading try Carolly Ericksons's The Hidden Diary of Marie-Antoinette or The Last Wife of Henry VIII. Also anything by Jodi Picoult is pretty dang good and will make ya think.

Try:
"French Relation" and "Well groomed" by Fiona Walker - my poolside favourites!
Probably everything by Jilly Cooper will serve you as well.
All hugely enjoyable but of the mindless drivel-variety, I'm afraid.

Maybe you'd like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books. They're comedic mysteries. Start with One For the Money and DO NOT SKIP!!!

Happy reading!

"The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns", both by khaled Hosseini, are fantastic. They're really well written with interesting plot lines, good writing, and they can teach you a lot about life and the world.
